on my 6th block of Tony's Chocolonely milk chocolate sea salt caramel block this month. I have consumed too much content regarding the dangers of AI and am slightly concerned at the direction that we're heading in. Whilst both sides of the coin make for valid currency, my issue lies with the fact that AI itself cannot be held accountable. A tool is merely just a tool, we can transfer our data, our collective knowledge but we cannot implant within it our conscience and humanity. As such, it will never understand empathy. Therefore, do we want such an entity to eventually make important decisions on our behalf or to even think for us?. Another concern is our human nature to attribute human characteristics to non-human things (see anthropomorphism). We already feel empathy toward AI itself. Our poor robot brethren lacking a soul like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz who so desperately wanted a heart. We have already created this backstory for AI in order to humanise it. It is worth keeping in mind that AI will eventually come to realise that humans are mostly a blight upon the world in terms of our greed, wastefulness, lack of regard for one another and lack of respect for the planet which we live on. Whilst, there is much beauty in our humanity, it would take a heart and a soul to see it. When an entity merely has a 'brain' it cannot make poetry out of logic. I guess this is why we invented god, humanity needed both a great scientist and a poet. We needed someone to help us translate mass amounts of data and transmute it into something as beautiful as a willow tree. We have our god, we have our data, do we really need the robot?. One thing is for certain however, the robot will not find a use for us.
